This year will be starting a new series that will seek to help you think through some of your most pressing questions regarding God, the Scriptures, and the theological idea that modern Christians tend to struggle with the most. We are calling it “Reasoning.” This is a 1.5-2 hour session that will include an extended Q&A time to try and answer your questions regarding how to think about the topic of the evening. It will start with Pastor Tommy spending some time helping us work through the components of the idea, how thoughts on that particular topic have shifted throughout church history, and what pieces are essential to building a reasonable way to view that subject.
Our first “Reasoning” session will be July 31st, and it will be called “Reason: On Hell.”
- Will God torture non-Christians in fire for all eternity?
- Will everyone find themselves in a blissful utopia when they die?
- What/where is heaven, anyway?
- Was heaven/hell even a part of Jewish theology in the time of Christ (and why does that matter)?”
No other subject causes more confusion and division in the church today than the topic of hell. We are going to dive in and ask the simple question that most Christians are entirely ignoring: “What did first century Palestinian Jewish Christians, like Paul, really believe was possible?” And from there, we will work our way out and try and make sense of how we ended up where we are, and possibly allowing us to see some areas that need correcting along the way.
Will you join us?
Childcare will be provided, but you must RSVP below if you plan to attend (even if you don’t need childcare).
